The Faculty of Pharmacy team from Yarmouk University won first place in the pharmaceutical competition organized by the University of Jordan as part of the 2025 International Conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy, entitled “Shaping the Future of Pharmacy: Enabling Education, Training, Innovation, and Integration of Artificial Intelligence.” Thirteen teams from pharmacy faculties of various Jordanian universities participated in the competition.
The team included students Bushra Al-Shini, Abdul Rahman Abu Sharshouh, Alaa Al-Nawafla, and Rahaf Ghaizan, under the supervision of Dr. Aseel Rat’an and Dr. Maryam Al-Amiri, who trained and mentored the team.
The team qualified for the finals after passing three competitive rounds: the interactive Kahoot test, the practical OSCE challenges, and the Jeopardy cognitive game.
In the first phase of the competition, the participating teams took part in a live interactive test on the Kahoot platform, which included 30 questions covering hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, depression, and the respiratory system.
The evaluation at this stage was carried out by academic referees from various Jordanian universities. Based on the performance results, the teams were ranked, and the top six teams advanced to the second stage of the competition.
In the second phase of the competition, the teams were presented with a realistic clinical case involving several medications used to treat disorders such as coagulation disorders, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and conditions related to contraception.
This stage involved a thorough evaluation by a tripartite jury, based on pharmacological consultation, adherence to clinical guidelines, accuracy of therapeutic decisions, and the identification of potential drug interactions.
The top three teams qualified for the final stage, where they competed in a Jeopardy-style round featuring advanced clinical questions based on real medical cases. The questions covered various fields, including hypertension, muscle weakness, coagulation disorders, asthma, diabetes, chronic and acute renal failure, and gastrointestinal diseases.
A jury of specialized professors from several universities supervised the final round, applying a precise scoring system to determine the results.
The Dean of the College, Dr. Ghaith Al-Taani, stated that this competition serves as a leading national platform to promote interactive education and to encourage students to further develop their clinical, research, and communication skills.
He added that the Faculty of Pharmacy is committed to providing distinguished pharmaceutical education through active learning based on critical thinking and problem-solving. The Faculty also aims to empower students with scientific knowledge, practical skills, and the ability to engage in scientific research, enhance performance, and develop professionally, socially, and clinically.
