Yarmouk University won the first place, among Jordanian universities, during the 21st National Sumo Robot Competition in the category of Best Programming, through its Robotics Team that includes students from the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology and the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science.The team showed an excellent performance in programming, innovation, and practical application and deserved first place in this competition organized by Applied Science University.The team members are Sara Al-Badr, Ibrahim Rababa’a, Mohammad Anaqrah, and Majd Bdour, all students under the supervision of Dr. Shadi Al-Laboun from the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology.Prof. Awad Al-Zaben, Dean of the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, was proud of this achievement, emphasizing the excellence of Yarmouk University students in meeting the challenges and competing within technical and innovative fields. He said this victory is a continuation of the policy adopted by Yarmouk University in supporting student creativity and encouraging students to attain the highest ranks in engineering and technological disciplines.He also praised the role of academic supervision and the high quality the team demonstrated in all stages of the competition. He expressed his thanks to the Career Rehabilitation Center of the Hisham Hijjawi Scientific Foundation for its continued support of the students and its role in enabling them to participate in activities and competitions that add to raising their practical capabilities and increasing their readiness for the labor market.
The President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Malek A. Alsharairi held a joint meeting with the Chairman of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee, Mr. Emad Al-Azzam, and the President of the Irbid Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Mohammed Al-Shoohah, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation to revitalize the commercial and tourism sectors across the city and the governorate.
During the meeting, Prof. Alsharairi affirmed Yarmouk University's commitment to leveraging its scientific and academic capabilities and activating a genuine partnership with the Greater Irbid Municipality and the Chamber of Commerce to serve the local community, as he stressed the urgent need to unite efforts to develop a set of future plans and programs aiming at reviving the city's heritage and stimulating the tourism movement in the governorate, particularly since Irbid possesses significant historical and cultural attractions. He also emphasized the importance of marketing these assets globally.
Alsharairi added : based on Yarmouk University strategic plan, it seeks to double the number of its international students from around the world. This endeavor is intended to achieve mutual economic benefits for the city of Irbid by increasing the effectiveness of its commercial sectors and tourism activities.
He also called for formalizing the relationship with the Greater Irbid Municipality through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming at organizing the mechanism of the work in various developmental and technical aspects, thereby achieving the public interest of national institutions and maximizing community benefit.
For his part, Mr. Al-Azzam stated that the Municipality seeks to deepen its strategic cooperation with all national institutions in the city, foremost among them Yarmouk University, due to its capabilities represented in scientific research and academic expertise. This partnership is crucial for developing the plans and projects the Municipality intends to implement for the city's advancement, as he highlighted the Municipality's acute need to benefit from the research and technical capabilities available in the university's various faculties to execute major developmental projects, especially in the fields of engineering and environmental planning and project management.
Mr. Al-Azzam also indicated that the Municipality is also working intensively and concurrently to implement a series of measures aimed at supporting the commercial movement and improving the city’s infrastructure. He confirmed that they have actively commenced the project to revive the historical downtown in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and relevant authorities, with the goal of transforming the commercial center into a preferred destination for both shoppers and visitors.
From another side , Mr. Al-Shoohah expressed the Chamber of Commerce's full readiness to enter into a strategic partnership with Yarmouk University, considering it a fundamental source for supplying the city's commercial market with purchasing power and ensuring the sustainability of the economic movement at the governorate level.
He added that intensive meetings are being held between the Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality to improve the service and regulatory environment around Yarmouk University, ensuring a suitable setting for students and supporting the continuity and growth of commercial establishments near the campus.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation visited the Numismatics Hall at the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology, which represents an academic, cultural, national, and humanitarian landmark where Yarmouk University exhibits the origins and evolution of Numismatics throughout the ages.
Minister of Youth, Dr. Raed Al-Adwan, in the presence of Yarmouk University President Dr. Malek A. AlSharairi, sponsored the “Youth for Health” event organized by the Faculty of Medicine through the student initiative “The Good Doctors.” The event was attended by Senator Prof. Dr. Suhad Al-Jundi, MP Dr. Moayyad Al-Alaween, MP Tariq Bani Hani, and MP Dr. Abdul Nasser Khasawneh.
Al-Adwan emphasized the importance of student volunteer initiatives driven by energetic youth dedicated to renewal and development. He praised Yarmouk University’s commitment to organizing volunteer initiatives that promote awareness, protect health, and build individuals. He added that when such an initiative goes beyond the classroom, it becomes a project of awareness, expressing the ministry’s pride in and appreciation for youth volunteers across various fields.
He also commended the role played by medical students in enhancing humanity and spreading health awareness in society, considering them the bright face of a generation that combines science with compassion, knowledge with humanity. He praised the “Youth for Health” initiative, describing it as a mature youth-driven vision that recognizes that a true doctor does not wait for the patient in the clinic, but instead goes into the community to educate, protect, and support them. He called on students to continue giving, to be the heartbeat and voice of the nation, to make knowledge a path to compassion, volunteerism a bridge to generosity, and teamwork a road to Jordan’s advancement.
For his part, AlSharairi reaffirmed Yarmouk University’s belief—since its founding—that youth are the beating heart of the nation and the creative mind capable of elevating society both scientifically and humanely.
He continued: “Yarmouk University is proud to always open its doors to every creative idea and every initiative that carries goodness, knowledge, and service. It is a university that has believed—and continues to believe—in its students and in its youth, placing them at the center of its academic and societal mission.”
AlSharairi added that today’s event, titled “Youth for Health,” represents a pioneering national occasion that reflects the vision of our wise Hashemite leadership, which constantly affirms that youth are the pioneers and champions of the future. With their energy and determination, Jordan moves confidently forward in its path of building and achievement. This event also reaffirms the Jordanian state's growing interest in the health and youth sectors and translates the leadership’s directives to empower youth and provide opportunities for them to become part of the national health development system.
The event featured a discussion session with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Hashemite University, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Qudah, moderated by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Jumana Al-Suleiman. The session included success stories of doctors from around the world who achieved exceptional accomplishments outside the medical field.
Al-Qudah highlighted the role physicians can play beyond medicine and their ability to succeed and create comprehensive change in political, economic, social, and other fields.
Students Ahmad Sanajleh and Huthaifa Muqabaleh, founders of The Good Doctors initiative, delivered a speech in which they spoke about the establishment of the initiative, its goals, and its activities.
On the sidelines of the event, Al-Adwan inaugurated a diverse medical awareness exhibition with participation from students of several initiatives from health faculties at the University of Jordan, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Mutah University, the Hashemite University, and Yarmouk University. The exhibition included various booths presenting medical and health topics such as heart diseases, surgery, early breast cancer screening, radiology, dentistry, and more.
Yarmouk University, through its health faculties—the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing—took part in the proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on “Knowledge, Skills, and Competence in Pharmacy and Toxicology (KSAPT 2025),” held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The conference was organized under the umbrella of the Global Forensic Excellence Summit (GFEX) and the Fourth Saudi Conference for Forensic Medical Sciences (SCFMS 2025), during the period from October 24 to 29, 2025.
The Yarmouk delegation to the conference included a team of participating students from the health faculties: Suhaib Khatatbeh from the Faculty of Medicine, Mahmoud Radaideh from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Zaid Jaradat from the Faculty of Nursing, under the supervision of Dr. Dima Al-Balas from the Faculty of Pharmacy.
This participation aimed to strengthen the university’s scientific and research presence at the regional and international levels, exchange knowledge and experiences with leading academic and research institutions, enhance interdisciplinary professional learning across medical fields, and support Arab scientific collaboration.
The conference was organized by the Saudi Pharmaceutical Society, in cooperation with the Saudi Ministry of Health, with the participation of specialists, researchers, and experts from around the world. It aimed to exchange knowledge, explore the latest advancements, and strengthen international collaboration in the fields of pharmacy and toxicology. This was pursued by promoting innovation through continuous learning, encouraging interdisciplinary cooperation, and advancing international scientific collaboration to support global knowledge sharing, enhance communication, and apply toxicological sciences in ways that improve human health.
The conference also included hands-on workshops, international discussion panels, scientific paper presentations, student competitions in reactive toxicology, research poster sessions, and awareness activities on drug prevention, in which the participating students took part.
As part of the Global Virtual Exchange (GVE) project, which connects Yarmouk University with Shenandoah University in Virginia, USA, the Department of English at Yarmouk University, in collaboration with the International Relations and Projects Directorate, organized the American Cultural Day event.
In her welcoming remarks, Dr. Sawsan Al-Daraisa, the project director at the university, highlighted the importance of the Global Virtual Exchange project now in its second year in enhancing the skills of participating students and preparing them for professional futures in an interconnected world.
She explained that the project links Yarmouk University students with their American counterparts throughout the semester through the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) model. Through joint groups, students receive training and develop their abilities in English language skills, teamwork, academic collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership, under the supervision of faculty members from both universities and the support of specialized mentors and trainers.
The event featured a series of presentations showcasing American traditions, values, volunteer work, and cultural and artistic aspects, reflecting the spirit of cultural exchange.
The event was attended by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Oqab Al-Shawashreh, along with several faculty members, administrative staff, project mentors, American researchers, and a group of students.
Professor Malek A. Alsharairi, President of Yarmouk University, and Eng. Philippe Mansour, CEO of Orange Jordan, discussed means of strengthening the continuing cooperation between the two sides in the fields of innovation and digital education.
A. Alsharairi stated during the meeting that Yarmouk University is always seeking to maintain and develop its partnership and cooperation with all public and private sector institutions and companies, and Orange is at the forefront of these companies, which rank among the first in the Kingdom in the field of telecommunication. He stressed the university's vision and efforts to further develop this effective collaboration with Orange in ways that support modernization processes and keep pace with rapid technological changes in the academic sector.
He highlighted the importance of cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors in bridging the gap between the needs of the local and international labor markets and the outcomes of the educational process.
He also spoke about the university’s establishment and the distinctive academic programs it offers at various degree levels, and added that the university is endowed with many strengths including Hijjawi College of Engineering Technology, which graduated hundreds of students each year, proving to be highly competent and competitive in various positions held. He also pointed out the presence of the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation with its business incubators, which aim to provide a supportive technological environment for creativity in various industrial and service fields.
A. Alsharairi also referred to the "Orange-Yarmouk Innovation Lab" during his speech, stating that it is one of the successful and distinguished projects between Yarmouk University and Orange. This lab provided a capable platform for the students at Hijjawi College in particular, and for university students in general, to be innovative, enhance educational outcomes, and raise the digital capability of youth.
For his part, Mansour expressed that the partnership between Orange and Yarmouk University is one of the most successful public-private partnerships. He explained that the “Orange-Yarmouk Innovation Lab” is one of the distinguished collaborative initiatives between the two sides, serving as a model for academic–industrial cooperation and helping to narrow the gap between educational outcomes and labor market requirements. He praised the university’s high academic standards and the competence of its graduates.
He emphasized that this step is done in line with Orange’s commitment to enhancing educational outcomes, as well as supporting the youth and digitally empowering them, adding that the company’s future aspirations will go toward supporting technological and digital advancement within its social responsibility strategy.
A meeting was arranged during the visit with a team of students from the Orange Yarmouk Innovation Lab, where students presented their innovative project to develop an intelligent robot for showing advertisements using interactive and innovative means. This project was done in cooperation between Hijjawi College of Engineering Technology and the Orange-Yarmouk Innovation Lab at the Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
According to the students, this robot is unique because it can move freely on its own in public areas and display visual and audio advertising content-attention-catching and offering a modern marketing experience. The project team comprises students: Sarah Al-Badr, Mohammad Anagreh, Ibrahim Nabil Al-Majali, Heba Saeed, Namarq Al-Basharat, Shahd Obeidat, Maysaa Al-Hamad, and Abdulraouf Hussein.
Professor Ahmad Al-Salman, from the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science at Yarmouk University, has succeeded in solving a mathematical problem that has remained open since 1992.
Solving this equation is the result of more than twenty-seven years of research effort. It contributed to addressing and resolving part of one of the most challenging problems in harmonic analysis, as the problem has posed a challenge even to leading mathematicians over the past decades.
Al-Salman indicated that the ideas and methods presented in this research are expected to contribute to advancing studies on Rough Oscillatory Singular Integral Operators, and to open new horizons in this vital field of harmonic analysis—something that will motivate researchers and graduate students to pursue further research and investigation in this important branch of mathematics.
He also noted that this scientific achievement has been published in one of the prestigious mathematics journals, Forum Mathematicum, under the title:
“On Rough Oscillatory Singular Integral Operators.”
The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Moheeb Awwadweh, praised this outstanding scientific accomplishment by Al-Salman, which reflects the excellence of the Faculty of Science and the distinguished scientific figures it hosts at the national, Arab, and international levels. This, in turn, positively contributes to enhancing the academic and research progress of the faculty across various scientific disciplines.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Salman has been a member of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) since 2019. The academy aims to strengthen scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in developing countries. Al-Salman was selected for this membership due to his valuable scientific contributions in mathematics.

A research team from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, at Yarmouk University has secured funding for a research project from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
The project will utilize technologies such as Hyperspectral Remote Sensing, Reflectance Spectroscopy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify regions affected by pollution resulting from mining activities in both Jordan and Spain.
The project partners include two Spanish universities, the University of León and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, along with the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
The team of Yarmouk University comprises the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Muheeb Awawdeh, who serves as the Project Coordinator in Jordan; Prof. Dr. Habis Ghereifat; and Osama Qawasmeh, a postgraduate student in the Faculty's Applied Geoinformatics Master’s program.
Furthermore, Mr. Qawasmeh will enroll in the Environmental Science and Technology PhD program at the University of León as part of the project's activities.
A research team from the University of León, consisting of Dr. Eduardo Mendileza and Dr. Ferrer Montserrat, is scheduled to conduct a fieldwork visit to the Kingdom next month, December.
It is noteworthy that this collaboration is a continuation of existing partnerships between Yarmouk University, the University of León, and the University of Twente.
Yarmouk University President, Prof. Malek A. Alsharairi, met with Prof. Hassan Hasab Al-Nabi, Dean of the College of Business at Northern Kentucky University (USA), during his visit to Yarmouk University to explore potential avenues for future academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.
Prof. Alsharairi emphasized that strengthening academic and research partnerships with international universities is among Yarmouk University’s top priorities. He affirmed the university’s readiness to expand cooperation with Northern Kentucky University, particularly in the fields of business and economics.
He pointed to the possibility of formalizing this collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing faculty exchange programs, which would deepen the exchange of expertise and knowledge between both sides. He also highlighted opportunities for student exchange programs, whether through twinning programs, dual-degree pathways, host-university arrangements, or short academic visits—allowing students to benefit from the academic offerings at both universities.
Prof. Alsharairi stressed the importance of introducing programs that develop students’ skills by enabling them to integrate courses from other disciplines into their primary field of study, enhancing their competitiveness in the global job market.
He also highlighted Yarmouk University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which works to empower young people, foster creativity, and channel their potential toward innovation by supporting entrepreneurial ideas and establishing incubators. He noted the possibility of establishing a joint entrepreneurship initiative with Northern Kentucky University in this area.
For his part, Prof. Hasab Al-Nabi presented an overview of Northern Kentucky University, its faculties, academic programs across various degree levels, and its admission requirements for international students. He emphasized NKU’s interest in fostering international collaborations to enrich student diversity and highlighted the importance of partnering with a distinguished institution like Yarmouk University—particularly in the field of business—through a structured academic and research collaboration that contributes to advancing educational and research excellence at both universities.
He added that Northern Kentucky University places strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation, offering multiple mechanisms to promote these concepts among students and the local community, in addition to its continued support for existing projects to ensure their sustainability and expand the culture of innovation within the student community.
The preparation of scientific competencies in various fields of knowledge, and the production of innovative scientific research aims to serve society by providing exemplary education in an intellectually stimulating university environment.
