
The Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Yarmouk University held a defense for the first PhD dissertation written in English, titled “Ethics and the Qur’an in the Qur’anic Encyclopedia – Leiden: A Critical Study from an Islamic Educational Perspective,” submitted by the student Raed Khattar.Khattar’s dissertation examined the article on ethics and the Holy Qur’an in the Leiden Qur’anic Encyclopedia from both a scholarly and an Islamic educational perspective, offering an important academic contribution to the fields of Qur’anic studies and Islamic education.The examination committee consisted of Dr. Nader Al-Rifai as the chair and supervisor, Dr. Yahya Jalal as an external examiner, and Prof. Samira Al-Rifai and Dr. Mohammad Thalji as internal examiners.The committee praised the scientific effort and the academic contribution presented by Khattar in his dissertation. They also emphasized the importance of continuing systematic contributions to reviewing and enriching Western Islamic sources from an Islamic educational perspective.
