Discussing Cooperation between Yarmouk and the Spanish Cultural Institute

The President of Yarmouk University, Professor Islam Massad, received a delegation from the Spanish Cultural Institute, which included Michel Qaqish, the administrative and financial officer at the Institute, and Dr. Almudena Hassan, the education coordinator at the Center, to discuss possible ways of cooperation between the two sides. During the meeting, Massad stressed the interest that Yarmouk attaches to developing the language skills of its students by offering language packages, including the Spanish language, pointing out the value of learning communication skills in the Spanish language, as this may help students to continue their graduate studies or obtain suitable job opportunities in the regional and international labor market. He then pointed out the possibility of expanding the network of cooperation with the Spanish Cultural Institute by attracting Spanish language teachers to teach in the Language Center and in the Spanish-English program in the Faculty of Arts. He also pointed to the possibility of accrediting the Language Center in Yarmouk as an international center for holding the Spanish language exam DELE since the Center includes 325 male and female students enrolled in the Spanish language package, confirming Yarmouk’s readiness to receive Spanish students who wish to join the Arabic Language Program for non-native speakers.

In return, the members of the delegation praised the distinguished scientific reputation of the University, stressing the Institute’s readiness to cooperate with Yarmouk University for enhancing methods of teaching and learning the Spanish language, noting the Institute’s keenness to expand bridges of cooperation between Yarmouk and the Spanish embassy to facilitate the recruitment of Spanish language teachers.

The meeting was attended by the Vice Presidents of the University, Professor Mousa Rababah and Professor Samer Samarah, the Director of the Language Center, Dr. Rana Kandeel, and the Director of Public Relations and Media, Dr. Nawzat Abu Al-Asal.
