89 Article (17): Authority to Impose Disciplinary Penalties on Students a. The Dean of Student Affairs has the authority to impose any of the penalties listed in items (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) of Article (3) of these regulations on students who commit disciplinary violations falling within the jurisdiction of the Investigation Committees of the Deanship of Student Affairs. b. The Dean of the Faculty or the Director of the relevant center has the authority to impose any of the penalties listed in items (1–8) of Article (3) of these regulations on students whose complaints are considered by committees affiliated with that faculty or center. c. The Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies has the authority to impose any of the penalties listed in items (1–8) of Article (3) of these regulations on students whose complaints are considered by committees affiliated with the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies. d. The President of the University has the authority to impose any of the penalties listed in items (1–9) of Article (3) of these regulations. e. The Council of Deans has the authority to impose the penalties listed in items (10–12) of Article (3) of these regulations, as well as those listed in items (1–9) of the same article. f. The decision to impose a disciplinary penalty shall be communicated within one week from the date of its issuance to the student in writing or by any electronic means through the relevant deanship or center. It shall also be communicated to the Admission and Registration Department, and all disciplinary penalty decisions shall be kept in the student’s file at the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, the relevant center, or the concerned faculty, as the case may be g. 1. The President of the University may impose any of the disciplinary penalties set forth in these regulations in cases of necessity, such as fights, riots, assaults, damage to university property, disturbances, or disruptions that threaten the regularity of study. In such cases, reports from University Security shall be deemed sufficient, and no investigation shall be required. 2. The President of the University shall notify the Council of Deans of his decisions at its first subsequent session3. 3 Article (17/g) was amended pursuant to the decision of the University Council in its fourth session for the academic year (2022/2023), dated 18/5/2023, and this decision shall take effect as of 18/5/2023.
