63 c. Publication or acceptance for publication of at least one research paper derived from the dissertation topic in peer-reviewed scholarly journals recognized by the University. 2. Notwithstanding paragraphs (a) and (b) above, a maximum of 6 credit hours from level (600) courses may be taken, upon the recommendation of the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee and with the approval of the Dean. The grades of these courses shall be included in the student’s cumulative average, provided that such courses have not been previously counted toward another academic degree. 3. The student must commence and complete any required remedial courses within the first year of enrollment in the program. These courses shall not be included in the cumulative average. The student shall not be permitted to register for courses within the approved study plan thereafter unless he/she has successfully completed the remedial courses. 4. Completion of any other additional requirements (including the language in which the dissertation is written), as may be recommended in exceptional cases by the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee and approved by the Council. Academic Load The minimum academic load per semester is 6 credit hours, while the maximum is 9 credit hours. In the summer semester, the maximum academic load is 6 credit hours. Postponement of Study a. A student may postpone study for one semester (excluding the summer semester) by a decision of the Dean, upon the student’s request and the recommendation of the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee, provided that the request is submitted within the first eight weeks of the semester in which the postponement is sought. The decision shall be communicated to the Director of Admission and Registration and to the concerned department. The period of postponement shall not be counted toward the maximum duration of study. b. Postponement of study is not permitted during the first semester of admission to the program. This also applies to a student transferring from one program to another.
