62 Higher Education Programs at Yarmouk University 2025/2026 General Framework for Earning a PhD at Yarmouk University Admission requirements 1. The applicant must hold a master’s degree or its equivalent from a university recognized by Yarmouk University, provided that this degree is preceded by bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. 2. The applicant’s Master’s studies must have been undertaken on a regular basis. 3. The applicant must fulfill the language requirements in accordance with the resolution of the Higher Education Council. 4. The applicant’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees must be in a field that qualifies him/her for specialized study in the department to which he/she seeks admission. Maximum Duration for Earning a PhD 1. The maximum duration is eight semesters. The summer semester shall not be counted for this purpose, except in cases where the student is admitted during the summer semester. 2. The maximum duration may be extended, in justified cases, by one additional semester. 3. The student may defer study for one semester (excluding the summer semester) by a decision of the Dean, based on the recommendation of the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee. Requirements for Obtaining a PhD 1. The requirements for obtaining a PhD are defined as follows: a. Successful completion of no fewer than 36 credit hours with a cumulative average of not less than 80%, from level (700) courses in accordance with the approved study plan, distributed as follows: • 21 credit hours of compulsory courses. • 15 credit hours of elective courses. b. Submission of a dissertation that constitutes an original contribution to the field of knowledge, allocated 18 credit hours, and successful defense of the dissertation.
