His Excellency Professor Khaled Toukan, Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission and Director General of the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), and Professor Malek Alshrairi, President of Yarmouk University, in cooperation with the Jordanian National Committee for SESAME, are pleased to announce the organization of the 14th Jordanian Workshop for Users of the Synchrotron Center, to be held at Yarmouk University on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
The workshop aims to introduce the applications of synchrotron light in scientific research, present the beamlines and research techniques available at the Center, highlight opportunities for scientific and research collaboration, and familiarize researchers and graduate students with the procedures for submitting research proposals to be conducted at the Synchrotron Center.
Register NowThe Jordanian Scientific Workshop for Users of the SESAME Synchrotron is organized by the SESAME Jordanian National Committee in collaboration with national universities to promote the effective use of synchrotron radiation in scientific research.
Building on previous editions, the workshop aims to introduce Jordanian researchers to SESAME's mission, research infrastructure, and scientific committees, while highlighting the available beamlines and their applications across physics, chemistry, materials science, life sciences, environmental studies, medicine, agriculture, pharmacy, archaeology, and industry.
Special emphasis is placed on operational beamlines such as XAFS/XRF, Infrared (IR), Materials Science (MS), HESEB, and BEATS, and on demonstrating how these facilities can support competitive research projects aligned with national development priorities.
The workshop also seeks to strengthen national research capacities, identify experts interested in synchrotron applications, encourage proposal submission, foster collaborative research teams, and provide information on grants, training opportunities, and specialized programs to enhance Jordan’s scientific contribution at the regional and international levels.
Introduce SESAME and its role to Jordanian researchers and highlight the research opportunities it offers to universities and development sectors as a center of excellence in scientific research in materials science, physics, chemistry, biology, environmental sciences, and their various applications in medicine, agriculture, pharmacy, and industry.
Present the different scientific committees of SESAME, , their roles, and how they support Jordanian researchers in participating in various activities and benefiting from the center’s facilities and applications.
Build and develop qualified Jordanian research capacities capable of competing internationally, through the selection of competitive research projects that contribute to national development, with a focus on priority scientific and technological areas, in addition to providing grants, training programs, seminars, and specialized workshops.
Identify Jordanian experts with experience and interest in synchrotron light applications, define proposed research projects, establish a comprehensive database, and form national research teams to ensure effective utilization of synchrotron radiation techniques and to acquire the expertise and skills necessary to keep pace with global scientific advancement
To be announced
We invite all researchers, graduate students, and professionals interested in synchrotron radiation applications to participate in this workshop.
