The faculty of science strives to maintain top level research and teaching standards in all its departments. The faculty fulfils its national obligation to general education providing extensive scientific instruction which is reflected by outstanding achievement among all science faculties in Jordan in the “achievement test” organized by the ministry of higher education.
The faculty revises curricula in all departments every four years to implement best teaching and learning strategies. The faculty of science attempts to contact industry to enhance applied research.
Departments and units functioning under the direct supervision of the faculty are working together to implement the faculty’s strategic guidelines and objectives.
The Faculty of Science is one of the oldest and largest Faculties at Yarmouk University, which was founded in 1976 by a decree of the late king Hussain Ben Talal.
The faculty of science includes the following academic departments: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biological Science, Statistics, and Earth and Environmental Sciences B.Sc. degrees are awarded in all specialties
In 1981 M.Sc. programs were initiated in all departments. Till 2002 the department of Computer Science was used to be a part of faculty of science, however, in 2002 it become the main department in the newly established Information Technology faculty.
Among our most innovative and pioneering programs is the M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences introduced in 1998. This unique project was began not only for academic purposes, but rather to build bridges between educational institution and society through emphasizing studying water resources and environmental issues, in order to collectively seek ways of protecting the environment in a sustainable manner.
In 2003, two new programs were founded in the faculty of science namely the Medical Physics program in the physics department leading to a B.Sc. degree in medical physics, and Biotechnology program in the Biological Sciences department leading to M.Sc. degree .
In summary, the Faculty of Science now offers the following programs:
• Chemistry
• Physics
• Medical Physics
• Statistics
• Mathematics
• BiolGeology
• ogical Science
