Electrical Power Engineering Department

Power Engineering Department is one of the Electrical Engineering departments at the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology/ Yarmouk University, Irbid, Jordan. The department plays a vital role in providing the Jordanian and regional market with qualified power engineers graduates. Power Engineering department offers an engineering program that focuses on both the theoretical and practical aspects of power engineering.


On the other hand, a significant focus is addressed to the skills in the fundamental concepts of engineering mathematics, physical sciences, electrical machines, power electronics, power system analysis, and high voltage engineering. The total number of credit hours is 167. An advanced Master program in power engineering will be introduced in the next year for power engineers in electric power companies, utilities, manufacturing establishments and energy sector in Jordan.

The faculty in General and the department in particular are distinguished by offering a training program that provides the students with a "live" experience in leading power companies in Jordan and abroad. It enhances their employment opportunity as well as the strong industry ties for the faculty members. A 6-month practical full-time training is required of all students and is worth 9 credit hours. The training program is monitored by the faculty members to ensure that all students acquire the required practical skills. This enhances the future employment opportunity of the students and research links of the faculty staff with industry.

The graduate program is led by 13 highly qualified faculty members and attracts outstanding students from Jordan and neighbouring countries. The annual intake of the department is around 120 students.  Currently there are around 670 students in the department. Approximately, 10 percent of the graduate students come from outside Jordan. The recent indications and statistics from the market have shown that Hijjawi faculty graduates are experiencing excellent employment opportunities both in Jordan
and abroad.
